For the missing who have never really left
and pass by on the sidewalk,
as if testing me,
I smile.
For the present tense trying to tease me
into a rabbit hole
of discontent,
I smile.
For interruptions
calling me to satisfy their
fulsome requests,
I smile.
For every happenstance
that tries to trim the wick
of burning expectations,
I say, yes,
try.
