The door to Saquish beach house is now closed
and by the time night hides those pebbly roads
(which is a kind description and not true)
you will be back at the kitchen table
sorting bills and messages left on the phone.
The fruit bowl will be washed
and you will breathe a little sadness
because this was the last door to summer
and now you must answer all those voices
raining on the porch steps.
